Amazon Scam Calls — Fake "Prime" Renewals & Refunds
The "Amazon scam" is a phone-call template fraud in which an automated voice claims a charge has been made to your Amazon account — usually a Prime renewal — and prompts you to "press 1 to cancel". Pressing 1 connects you to a scammer who tries to talk you into installing remote-access software.
Warning signs
- Robotic voice referencing a recent Amazon "charge" without naming the product.
- Pressure to act in the next few minutes "or be charged".
- Caller asks you to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer or similar remote-control software.
Real-world scripts
- ""Your Amazon Prime membership has been renewed for £79.99. Press 1 to cancel.""
- ""We need to verify your refund — please log into your bank while we are on the line.""
If you receive this call
- Hang up — Amazon does not call about Prime renewals.
- Log into your Amazon account directly to verify any subscription.
- If you installed software during the call, disconnect and call your bank.
- Report it to Action Fraud and submit a number report on GhostCallers.
